Scrap Art

I was at a fabric store and picked up a book "Collage Couture" by Julie Nutting. It shows techniques on ways to use left over scrap booking items. I decided to try out one but used scrap fabric instead. (We all know I have tons, why not put it to use!)

This isn't 100% original since I am learning how to do this technique. The only real difference is using fabric and also oil pastels on her "skin".

Also, for her "skin" I'm using J.R.R. Tolkien's "Two Towers". I know, I know, terrible. But not really since the binding wore off and it was in pieces. It would be a shame to throw it out!

A couple more in the style of the book so I can practice (plus let's face it, the girls are cute) and next is to do my own style  - something more elaborate and fantasy inspired.

Until then - enjoy :)
This is from the example on pg. 31

The Spirit of Bishop

Growing up I watched the fabulous cartoon "X-Men" every Saturday morning.
So when I saw Fuzz start at me from across the room I couldn't help but feel the spirit of Bishop emanating through her eyeball..

Lilly Pad

Business Card for The Lilly Pad. Went for more a more vintage, classy feel as opposed to the typical "safe" style that quilt shops have. May put a sewing maching water mark on the back where the writing space is.

Possible Business Card

Starring "Standard Cat" - Fuzz.

Took this while I was outside and she was sitting pretty on the windowsill. The screen added a very cool, natural texture to the whole photo/design.

Also used a shade of her eye colour for the font.

Any thoughts?

UPDATE:
The film has recently been selected to screen at the California Independent Film Festival and was selected to tour with the National Veterans Memorial.

"Franklin" Movie Still

I helped add patches to the uniforms used in "Franklin". All materials were authentic to the time period. It is an amazing feeling being able to participate in such a beautiful film.

Happy Birthday Anita

I made this quilt from drawings Anita had sent to my friend Matty. There was no design layout just the drawings (I scanned and photoshopped them to print as close to the original as possible on printable fabric.)

Next I pieced the center poem and chose a pile of fabrics that may coordinate.
Once I had borders I attempted several different layouts. A few of the borders had to be adjusted to make a matching sized pair for either side. 2in blocks make a nice filler as well and happened to fit evenly. A design wall came in very handy during this process. The next step was filling in the top and bottom of the center. I made 2 embroidery blocks. The top is one of a moon and around it says "We always have the moon". The bottom reads "Bubby <3 Babbygirl". Their nicknames for each other.

The finished result of 3 days and a few freakouts is a one of a kind throw quilt (tied) for Anita's Birthday. This was Matty's idea, Anita's art work and my eccentric style combined making something very enjoyable :)
Thank you Anita for the final photo :)
